The purpose of this course is to introduce risk and protective factors, the science behind them, and how they can be used in prevention planning in your community.

Real-World Application
This course will help you identify the specific factors in your school(s), program(s), or community(ies) that may increase the likelihood of negative youth outcomes, such as substance use and violence while also recognizing the protective supports that promote resilience. Participants can use this knowledge to guide prevention planning, strengthen family and school supports, improve youth connectedness, and build targeted strategies that address root causes before problems escalate.
