Description

In this course, Juvenile Probation Officers (JPOs) and additional juvenile justice professionals will learn about the Standardized Program Evaluation Protocol™ (SPEP™) and how it has become a valuable tool in assessing and improving juvenile justice services across Pennsylvania. In addition, you will learn how the information gained from SPEP™ assessments is used to inform practice and improve decision-making at the county level.

Learning Objectives

  • Briefly explain the Standardized Program Evaluation Protocol™ and its role in reducing juvenile recidivism.
  • Interpret SPEP™ scores to make informed recommendations for courts, as well as service delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively with service providers to align program delivery with evidence-based dosage and duration targets.
  • Utilize SPEP™ resources and tools to improve county level decision-making and support high-quality juvenile justice interventions.

Real-World Application

The knowledge and skills gained in this course can be immediately applied to everyday juvenile probation practice. Learners will be better equipped to interpret SPEP assessment results, make informed recommendations regarding service delivery, collaborate with providers to strengthen program quality, and use SPEP tools to support county-level planning and continuous improvement. By applying these practices, JPOs can help ensure youth receive interventions that are aligned with research and have the greatest potential to reduce recidivism.
